
Pandit Suman Ghosh is an internationally acclaimed Hindustani Classical Vocalist of the Mewati Gharana and one of the most celebrated torch-bearers of the Legendary Stalwart, Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj Ji.
He also trained for many years under the iconic Guru and Sangeet Rishi, Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh Ji, and is uniquely recognized as the leading torchbearer of both these pillars of Indian Classical Music.
He began his training under the watchful guidance of his mother, Smt. Monika Ghosh Ji, and later continued to be groomed by the Indore Gharana stalwart Pandit Shrikant Bakre Ji, One of the most revered successors of Ustad Amir Khan Saheb.
Pandit Suman Ghosh’s music deeply reflects the essence of this rare confluence of training.
Over the decades, his mellifluous voice, soul-stirring artistry and technical perfection, elevates music to divinity, leaving worldwide audiences spellbound at the many prestigious music conferences to which he is regularly invited to perform.
Referring to him as a “virtuoso performer” in a review of his Saptak (Ahmedabad) concert in 2014 , the Times of India, the largest circulating English language daily in the world, described another of his concerts in 2015 with the headline : “A Night of Musical Bliss”.
Pandit Ghosh has had the rare privilege of performing for the President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan, the official Presidential residence.
He also has the rare honor to have rendered “Vande Mataram” at a joint session of Parliament, on India’s 50th Independence Day on 15th August 1997.
In the year 2024, Pandit Ghosh was blessed with yet another rare honor when he was invited by President Joe Biden to the White House.
He is perhaps the only Indian Classical Musician to have been invited to both Rashtrapathi Bhavan and the White House.
While being honored by India House in Houston, in the presence of some great luminaries from several fields at the city, state and national levels, Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj Ji, showered his blessings on his beloved disciple in his acceptance speech by saying that, just as Deenanath Mangeshkar Ji became better known after his daughter Lata Mangeshkar Ji, and noted poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan Ji after his son Amitabh Bachchan Ji, “for me, I needed to have Suman Ghosh.” Click for Video
While commenting on Pandit Ghosh’s creative genius, Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj Ji unequivocally expressed that this worthy disciple has assured his Guru’s place in the highest abode of the Supreme by walking a few steps ahead of his own Guru, the Living Legend Himself. Click for Video
Pandit Ghosh considers the above as the most invaluable blessing and the highest compliment ever bestowed by a Guru.
The Living Legend also credits Pandit Ghosh, as one of the very few to ably carry forward the tradition of Haveli Sangeet, a centuries – old subgenre that was revived and reintroduced to audiences by the Sangeet Martand.
In the year 1999, Pandit Ghosh was the only music scholar from India to have been invited to present his research on Hindustani Classical Music at the international conference held in Vienna, Austria to celebrate the Century of Sound Archiving.
The Hindu, a famous daily from India, writes… “Well-known for his spiritually inspiring concert performances, innovative workshops and lectures, Pt. Suman Ghosh, shuffles between performance and academics with equal ease”.
Pandit Ghosh’s own creations ranging from aesthetically and technically brilliant bandishes and taranas to soulful bhajans and shlokas, have been lauded by his audiences, peers and mentors.
His music direction, composition and singing for the Hollywood Film “Dancing in Twilight” received the Gold Medal for Excellence In a Feature Film at the 2005 Sundance Music Festival.
Pandit Ghosh’s unique and unmatched contributions towards the enrichment of Indian Classical Music, have been recognized and awarded by many organizations.
To commemorate his arrival in Houston, The Mayor of Houston declared September 3rd as ‘Pandit Suman Ghosh Day’.
The Mayor of Houston and Congressman, Mr. Sylvester Turner, recently applauded the contributions of Pandit Ghosh and CICMH who, in the Mayor’s words, have “helped put Houston on the International Cultural map.” Click for Video
The Governor of Texas Mr. Greg Abbott, felicitated Pandit Ghosh with a very rare and prestigious Proclamation in October 2023.
He was honored by the NABC 2015 (35th North American Bengali Conference) with a Lifetime Achievement Award in July 2015, for his contributions in the field of Indian Classical Music thus far.
The cities of Sugar Land and Stafford, Texas, USA, have also recognized and awarded him for his excellence in the field.
The New York State Senate Has bestowed a rare honor on Pandit Ghosh. He has also been recognized by the prestigious Smithsonian Institution.
Recognition of Pandit Ghosh’s excellence in the field of Indian Classical Music has also come from representatives of the Government of India and many other prestigious organizations in India.
Mesmerized by Pandit Suman Ghosh Ji’s performance during an exclusive event in September 2024, His Excellency Shri Hardeep Singh Puri Ji, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt of India, began his speech by stating that in his nearly 4 decades-long career, he had not experienced such an apt and spiritually elevating performance. In August 2016, Pandit Suman Ghosh was honored by the Consul General of India in Houston, as a true ambassador of Indian culture and traditions in the western hemisphere, in a reception hosted by the Consulate of India, an honor usually reserved for visiting dignitaries.
